Who are we?

WRAP is a global environmental NGO, and our core purpose is to help tackle climate change. We want to protect our planet by transforming our broken product and food systems to create circular living. We don’t believe that our natural resources should be wasted, everything we use should be re-used and recycled.

If you join us at WRAP – and we think you should – you'll drive important change and help transform our throwaway economy into one where we eliminate waste, circulate resources, and adopt nature-positive, low carbon, and resource-efficient systems.

We want to power circular living in every boardroom and every home, and you can help us achieve this.

The role

As our Senior Specialist for Plastics and Packaging you will be part of a small but dedicated team delivering our ambition to keep plastic in the economy and out of the natural environment , and evolving that ambition to all packaging materials. Your knowledge and expertise will be essential in finding practical solutions and developing best practice in the UK, as well as international.

You will be responsible for leading our work on packaging circularity; identifying how packaging reforms will impact the collection, recycling and end markets for packaging in the UK; the resulting capacity requirements and shortfalls; how to support investment in critical infrastructure and the key opportunities for cross value chain collaboration. Whilst this is predominantly a UK focused role, you will also provide technical support to the international Plastics Pact network.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying the market failures in driving greater circularity in packaging materials and convening stakeholders from across the entire value chain to identify how to overcome shared barriers.
  • Working with industry to develop and get buy-in to ambitious action plans to transform the packaging system.
  •  Identifying  environmental and economic opportunities to transform the packaging system and leading a team to deliver effective projects.
  • Translating technical subject matter into impactful reports, guidance and tools for the public and private sector to take action.
  • Ensuring your direct reports and wider team of colleagues are bought into your strategy and are motivated to deliver excellent results.

Who are we looking for?

  • Significant technical knowledge of the packaging value chain, the barriers to circularity and impact hotspots, and the ability to translate that knowledge into strategic priorities and an impactful programme of work.
  • Experience of the packaging policy landscape and its impact on packaging design, collection, recycling, and investment.
  • Excellent advocacy and convening skills, with the ability to engage effectively and compellingly with a range of audiences, in the UK and internationally and manage a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to understand and absorb complex information, translating it into impactful advice, guidance, reports and presentations.
  • People management skills and the ability to lead and motivate others to deliver impactful programmes of work.
