Who are we?

WRAP is a global environmental action NGO championing the shift towards a circular economy, fundamentally reshaping how we produce, consume, and manage resources. Our vision is a world transformed, in which Circular Living is commonplace. Where the systems that provide our everyday goods contribute to the world's prosperity and sustainability instead of reducing it.

WRAP is driving Circular Living through four key areas: accelerating the circular economy, future-proofing food, preventing problem plastics and transforming textiles. We catalyse action from policy makers, businesses, NGOs and citizens to make it happen.

We have offices in the UK, USA and Australia, and live projects in over 30 countries.

Join us at WRAP and you'll drive important change to make Circular Living the norm.

The role

As our Local Authority Technical Consultant, you will work as part of a small team primarily supporting local authorities across England, as they look to align their recycling and waste management services with the requirements of Simpler Recycling, pEPR and DRS. You may also provide comparable support into councils within Northern Ireland.

You will be managing bespoke support for multiple local authorities; using your technical knowledge alongside your understanding of local government to identify the specific support required, commissioning external contractors and coordinating input from colleagues in order that projects are delivered to the agreed budget and timeframe. You will use your ability to engage with others, to gather data and insights from local authority colleagues and will contribute to the development and dissemination of good practice guidance and resources as well as the delivery of webinars, workshops and training for local authority officers and elected members.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a self-starting team player with a good understanding of the policies that are influencing local authority waste and recycling services in England and who can use their experience of delivering those services to support others. You will be able to:

  • Establish effective working relationships with officers and Elected Members within local authorities in support of the delivery of technical advice.
  • Use your knowledge and experience to scope and then manage the delivery of strategic, operational or communications support into local authorities, ensuring the outputs are of a high standard, meet the expectations of the local authority and are delivered on time and in budget.
  • Develop and deliver guidance, technical resources, webinars, workshops and training courses in an accessible and engaging style, tailored to the audience.
  • Work flexibly as part of a small team; managing and inputting into multiple projects at the same time.

WRAP is a climate action NGO working around the globe to tackle the causes of the climate crisis and give the planet a sustainable future. Our vision is a thriving world in which climate change is no longer a problem.
